Sooke Autism Support Society (SASS) is committed to creating welcoming and accessible spaces, information, programs, and opportunities for autistic people and their families. We recognize that accessibility looks different for different people and that barriers can be physical, sensory, communication-based, technological, cognitive, or otherwise.

Website Accessibility

 

Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we recognize that we may not always get everything right. We are working to make the SASS website accessible and easy to use for as many people as possible.

 

As we develop and update our website, we aim to follow recognized web accessibility practices, including consideration of:

• clear and consistent navigation;

• readable text and sufficient colour contrast;

• meaningful headings and page structure;

• alternative text for meaningful images;

• keyboard accessibility;

• descriptive links and buttons; and

• clear, plain-language information wherever possible.

If you have difficulty accessing information on our website, need information in a different format, or experience a communication or accessibility barrier when interacting with SASS, please contact us.

We will work with you to identify a reasonable way to provide the information or support you need.

Programs and Events

 

We aim to consider accessibility when planning SASS programs, events, and activities and recognize that participants may have a wide range of sensory, communication, mobility, cognitive, and other access needs.

Where possible, we encourage participants and families to let us know about accessibility needs when registering for an activity so that we can work together to support participation.

We welcome feedback about accessibility at SASS. If you encounter a barrier on our website or in one of our programs, events, or communications, please let us know. We will make reasonable efforts to respond to accessibility concerns and use feedback to improve the accessibility of our organization over time.
